THE COMPLACENT CHRISTIAN,
Have you ever felt satisfied with your walk with God, your relationship with Jesus and your fellowship with the Holy Spirit that you think you wouldn’t need trying harder?
It’s actually great to feel satisfied and safe in your relationship with God especially if it is something you have been working hard on to attain. However, this can also be very tricky and dangerous.
It is very easy to become complacent over time , when you measure your relationship with God based on the number of years you’ve been a christian. It also very easy to become complacent because we are familiar with the things of God.
We should understand that our relationship with God is an endless process of growth and continuous growth to discovering mysteries and experiencing divine encounters until we are finally made like Jesus.
There is never an arrival here on earth. Like our academic teachers say; there is always room for improvement.
But the complacent Christian thinks he/she has arrived and wouldn’t need to try any harder than they have. The complacent Christian is genuinely satisfied with their current state and believes they are done.
When a Christian becomes complacent, they tend to; hate being corrected, depend on their own strength and begin to retrogress in their walk with God.
King Saul was an example of that, he became complacent and that was why he allowed disobedience and pride destroy him.
Anytime you feel satisfied with what you have with God pray against that. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to create a hunger within you that can help you continue to grow. We can never have enough of God.
The complacent Christian usually backslides in the long run. Search your hearts and if you are becoming complacent, pray against it. Because complacency is a path that leads to self destruction.
Don’t be like the complacent Christian because there is always more when it comes to God and the kingdom of God. There is always some growing up no matter how matured you are. There is always something you can unlearn, understand better and learn.
