THE JUSTICE OF GOD 2

Let’s continue from last week. We’ve learnt that God is just in character and His justice manifests in three ways, firstly ; He pays back what everyone deserves.

Let’s get in the other two.

2. God Defends the Weak and the Poor

A key expression of God’s justice is His defense of the vulnerable. Scripture consistently shows that God stands for the poor, the oppressed, the widow, the orphan, and the foreigner. His justice actively opposes exploitation and injustice.

“The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.”

— Psalm 103:6

“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.”

— Psalm 82:3

God’s justice is restorative in nature. He intervenes where human systems often fail, ensuring dignity, protection, and hope for those without power.

“He judges the world with righteousness; He governs the peoples with justice.”

— Psalm 9:8

3. God Rewards Those Who Do Right

God’s justice does not only correct wrongdoing; it also rewards righteousness. Faithfulness, obedience, and integrity are always seen by God, even when they go unnoticed by others.

“Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely He is God who judges in the earth.”

— Psalm 58:11

“God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name.”

— Hebrews 6:10

These rewards may come in this life or in eternity, but they are always certain. God’s justice assures believers that doing what is right is never in vain.

Justice, Righteousness, and Mercy

God’s justice is inseparable from His righteousness and holiness. Righteousness refers to God’s moral perfection, while holiness describes His complete purity and separation from sin. Justice is how these attributes are expressed in action.

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face.”

— Psalm 89:14

At the same time, God’s justice is balanced with mercy. Mercy does not cancel justice; it works alongside it. Through mercy, God offers forgiveness to those who repent.
