The Church Needs you

Sometimes, we unintentionally make people feel like they are not needed and even in the church this happens too. Many people feel dejected, unseen and unheard in many ways and before we know it, most of them leave. But that is not true, the church needs you.

Yes, you.

The church needs you. Not just your presence on Sunday. Not just your name on the membership list. Not just your body sitting in a pew while the service happens around you. The body of Christ needs you. You are important.

You are needed. You have something to give. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12:27:

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
Think about that for a moment.

You are a part of the body.

And just like a body cannot function properly when one of its parts refuses to do what it was created to do, the church is affected when its members choose to remain uninvolved.

Yes, someone else may step in. Someone else may eventually fill the position you left behind. But they won’t be you.

Because, God didn’t give your gifts, your experiences, your personality, your creativity and your abilities to someone else. He gave them to you.
Maybe you’ve been disappointed by the church. Maybe someone hurt you. Maybe you became tired of the politics, the misunderstandings, the imperfect leadership, or the things that didn’t go the way you expected.

I understand.

But please, don’t allow the imperfections of people to convince you that you no longer have a place in the body of Christ.

Come back.

And when you come back, don’t just come to occupy a seat. Come to be a part.

There is no such thing as a “common floor member” in the body of Christ.

You don’t have to preach from the pulpit to matter. You don’t even have to lead a department to be valuable. You don’t need a microphone to make an impact. Maybe you can encourage someone.
Maybe you can teach.

Maybe you can organize.

Maybe you can sing.

Maybe you can create.

Maybe you can serve quietly behind the scenes.

Maybe you have the gift of hospitality, leadership, giving, administration, mercy, wisdom or encouragement.

Whatever God has placed in you, there is room for it in His body.

Romans 12:6 says:

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”

But here’s the part we sometimes don’t want to hear: Having a gift isn’t enough. We have to develop it.

The church needs you to grow. Grow in your character.

Grow in your skills.

Grow in your spiritual gifts.

Grow in wisdom.

Grow in your knowledge of God’s Word.

Grow into the person God is calling you to become.

Because you cannot give what you have refused to develop, and sometimes, the problem isn’t that the church doesn’t have enough gifted people.

It’s that too many gifted people have decided not to participate.

The church doesn’t just need your attendance.

The church needs your participation.

It needs your growth.

It needs your service.

It needs your voice.

It needs your gifts.

It needs your willingness.

So, if you’ve withdrawn, come back. If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, step in. If you’ve been hiding your gifts, develop them. If you’ve been waiting to feel “qualified enough,” start where you are and grow. Because the church needs you.

And perhaps the question isn’t whether the church needs you. The question is: will you allow yourself to be used?

The body is stronger when every part functions. We need each other.

And together, we can become the church God has called us to be.
