Why do we go through pain, disappointments, hard times and wickedness when we serve the almighty who can do all things. If you have ever wondered, then that makes the two of us. I wonder too. But, why did the Irealites pass through the wilderness to get to the promised land when they didn’t have to( Exodus 13:17-18).
I realised,
1. how could the Israelites have known God as the God who makes a way where there seems to be no way? ( Exodus 14)
2. how could they have known God as the God who provides manna, quail and water in impossible situations. ( Exodus 16)
3. how could they have known God as the God who goes before his people by day as a pillar of cloud and by night as a pillar of fire.
It’s important to understand what God did with his people, for his people and to his people during the time in the wilderness.
During the times in our lives that feels like we are in the wilderness, God works on us so that we can know him more than we already know and that is part of our walk with him. When God wants to walk with you, he shows you what he can do and all you can know about him so that you can know him well to trust him enough.
For some of us we know God from the stories we’ve heard others share about him. We trust him because of what we’ve heard and seen him do before. How could we have known about all he did with the Israelites on the wilderness if they didn’t go through it. We hope to encounter him in that light because he has done it before. We have even encountered him because we heard it before.
Why the wilderness?
Simply put, to know God and make him known.
To know his power, might and salvation so that we can see his glory. So, as long as we live we will continue to pass through the wilderness in every season of our lives so that we don’t stop knowing God. Because, actually, we can never fully know him even in forever.
