I know we are much familiar with the saying, ‘obedience is better than sacrifice’. We may have heard it several times from our parents or teachers but do we really understand why so?
I’ve learnt that obedience though hard initially, is the easiest path to take. This is because the consequences of disobedience are very bad.
Today, I would like us to look at 3 consequences of disobedience. Disobedience being the act of going against God’s word and instructions.
1. Disobedience leads us away from God’s plan and eventually God.
God’s initial plan for man was to live in His presence forever(garden of Eden) but because of disobedience man was cast out of God’s presence and plan(Genesis 3). This story of Adam and Eve isn’t a ground for debate on who is to be blamed for this fall but to rather set as an example for us to understand how bad disobedience can destroy us.
2. Disobedience is one of the major causes of delay in our lives(
- Just like that, the Israelites spent 40 years wandering when they didn’t have to. How? Because they kept disobeying God. Disobeying God actually goes against you, because you would be going against time.
3. Disobeying God will lead you into a whole lot of troubles that could’ve been avoided.
The very reason for the saying; ‘ obedience is better than sacrifice’. I believe that there are so many problems we are dealing with today that came about only because of our disobedience towards God’s word. Achan’s case is a typical example( Joshua 7 : 16-26). Because he disobeyed God and hid some of the items from the raid, his entire household was killed.
It will be in our best interest to choose obedience over sacrifice always!
