The most controversial statement is ‘Jesus is God’
Every other religion in the world believe there is a God somewhere; the God who made life and created the world. We all agree on this – the one thing we all agree on. The difference arises when Christians say that Jesus is God. This is because most people can not bring themselves to understand that God can be human like Jesus was. They don’t believe that a man can claim to be God as Jesus claims to be.
As a christian I would like to help you understand why we proclaim that Jesus is God. I remember when Jesus asked His disciples who do you say I am? Why would you think he asked? Let me tell you , He asked because who we believe He is, is very important. it is very important that we know the truth about Him.
Jesus is God because He says so!
John 10:30 says I and my father are one. This is self explanatory but who on earth has the authority to proclaim that? As believers we believe that the bible is true and every word in it is God’s very word.
Who is His father then? In Mathew 3:17, during Jesus’ baptism, God established the identity of Jesus as His beloved son and the Messiah. Also in John 3:16, the bible referred to Jesus as the ‘only begotten son’. So when Jesus says; I and my father are one, He was referring to the God who made the heavens and the earth and they are one. So therefore Jesus is God
Jesus is God because they are one in Spirit.
We believe in the trinity, ie. the triune nature of God which is, God has revealed himself to man in three persons; the father. the son and the holy spirit. It pleases God that we get to know him in these three ways. Personally I believe man was created in this likeness being the spirit, soul and body.
The lamb carried the seven sprits of God.
In Revelstions 5;6, the bible describes a vision which had the lamb of God who was to be slained carrying the 7 spirits of God, the totality of God. This explains to us that the same spirit in God is also in Jesus, this is becauase they are one.
Jesus is the image of the invicible God.
We now know they carry the same spirit, now we should also know that Colossians 1:15 reveals that Jesus Christ is the image of the invicible God. More like God is spirit and His body is Jesus Christ.
Now when we say nothing is impossible for God we mean He doesn’t stop being the father to become the son; He exist as both at the same time and they both have the same spirit. That’s why through out the bible the spirit of God, the spirit of Jesus( Romans 8:9, Galatians 4:6) and the Holy Spirit are used interchangeably. They are one; they are not three different spirits.
I can boldly declare that Jesus is God. For God was pleased to have all of himself dwell in Christ( Colissians 1:19).
